In a continued quest for indigenous Norwegian worship, I came across this album recently. The artist's name is Paul Grønseth, and every song on the album is in Norwegian! You may think, "Well of course it's in Norwegian - he's a Norwegian, right?" Wrong. Because English is the common language of the international marketplace (and marketed Christianity), I am hearing more and more songs being written in English by non-native English speakers. While I have no problem with this in and of itself, I long for modern expressions of worship written in the languages native to the land that they come from. As a worship leader in Norway, I use choruses in Norwegian and English with our congregation, but there is a strength that comes when people sing in the language of their own hearts.
A good friend (and fellow worship leader) of mine, Stephan Jensen introduced me to this album while riding in his car on Sunday, and I have just downloaded it from iTunes. I look forward to introducing some of these songs to our youth and the rest of our congregation.
